Ocean Swims are growing in popularity across the country and the Port Arthur Historic Site on the Tasman Peninsula recently hosted the annual ‘Port Arthur Convict Escape’ event from the shores of Mason Cove with the iconic Port Arthur Penitentiary as a foreboding backdrop.

Approximately 56 competitors participated in this year’s event including 25 Victorians who travelled from the mainland to compete at Port Arthur. Participants were divided into two groups which set off at staggered times for the 1.5 kilometre swim which took swimmers out of Mason Cove into Carnarvon Bay and return.
