Devil of a Swim

On a glorious autumn Sunday morning in May swimming enthusiasts from around Australia descended on Bicheno’s Waubs Bay for its annual ocean swim challenge “Devil of a Swim”.

Originally initiated by Olympic swimming champion Shane Gould to raise awareness for the Tasmanian Devils’ facial tumour the competition is now in its 6th year and has become the longest ocean race on the Tasmanian Ocean Swim Calendar.  Currently run by Bicheno Surf Life Saving Club, the day included three key events: the 1km and 2km dash across Waubs Bay and the gruelling 5km swim around Diamond Island.
