Saying ‘No’ to Super Trawler

Around 150 people rallied at the Tuna Club at Eaglehawk Neck on Saturday to show their opposition to the 143m, 9500-tonne super-trawler, FV Margiris fishing in Tasmanian waters.

Mayor Jan Barwick and high-profile tourism operator Rob Pennicott joined with representatives from the Tuna Club EHN, The Tasmanian Game Fishers Association, Game Fishers Assoc of Australia, Sea Charter Boat Operators Tasmania, and TAR (Tasmanian Assoc for Recreational Fishing Inc) as well as concerned members of the community to oppose the vessel fishing in Tasmanian waters in its present capacity.

Main speaker Neil ‘Nobby’ Clark, President of the Tasmanian Tuna Club, said that the Club opposed the vessel fishing in Tasmanian waters.
