Port Arthur Memories Revisited

Did you know that the first female inducted into the Australian navy was from Port Arthur and she was only six years old? True. Nancy Bentley’s story has been delightfully told by Tracey Hawkins and illustrated by Jacqui Grantford in a book for children that I found in the Port Arthur gift shop. This event occurred in 1920, at Port Arthur. Nancy was one of a family of six children who grew up in Port Arthur in the early part of the 20th century.
